illuustrations X lifewithjson: The Finale

The day has finally come!! And a whole month earlier than expected too! Ricky was initially aiming to release this on July 1st  but I guess he was on a good grind and got it done a lot sooner than he thought. I’m super stoked to be able to share all his hard work with you guys.

First of all, I just want to give a huge thanks to Ricky for finally convincing me to do this. This was all Ricky’s idea and it’s seriously been in the making since the I had my FRS. He’s really been getting into video and the sad part is that he had quite a few videos of my FRS and then I went and sold it, so he never got a chance to finish it. With the CTR looking a little less stock now, he wanted to revisit the idea and start over. Typically, I’d be cool with it but he was trying really hard to convince me to add some of my own voice over in to the video as well. As you already know – I am cool with being on the back side of the camera but not on the other side… So putting my voice in a video was next level for me. LOL

He spent a lot of time convincing me of his vision of how he wanted the video to turn out and eventually I just caved and cursed him a million times and did it. He provided me with questions and/or thoughts to mull over and I answered them. I will admit that it’s a little weird to talk to myself but use a tone of voice like I’m talking to someone so that it sounds natural. Literally all I did was record my voice, handed it over to him and he did all the magic.

Seeing this video all completed with all the footage he captured paired with the music and the emotions it brings to me personally makes me super happy about how it all came together. He was able to bring how I feel about the blog to life and that’s important to me. This blog was never really meant to be about any “one” thing – it was and always will be a place for me to throw all my random thoughts and pictures so that anyone who cared to look or read about it could do so. More importantly, it will literally become an archive of everything awesome I’ve done and managed to capture and I’m stoked so many of you love following along.

I really really hope you guys enjoy the video – if not for my awkward voice over – then at least for the awesome video and music Ricky put together. He put a lot of hours into it and although it will be done for you in 11-ish minutes, I hope you guys feel the same energy I did when I watched it. Enjoy! Please leave some feedback if you have any comments!

Blue Skies & Rainy Nights

Well, it seems like we’re in a never-ending series of filming for Ricky’s video lately… But I don’t mind! He’s getting a lot of good footage and this night was no different. We planned to go out in the rain to get some rainy shots and change the mood a little bit, and change the mood we did.

He had access to a rooftop that looked down over center street, so that was a perfect time to get some footage that you can’t usually get (unless you have a drone lol). Rooftop access paired with near-empty roads makes for some cool shots for sure. I wish I had my camera up there with me when we went to scope it out so I could show you… But I guess you’ll just have to wait for the video.

Derrick joined in that night as well to get some behind-the-scenes footage and some extra stuff that Ricky could use too. The more, the merrier! The only footage I got was when we were parked in Chinatown and they were getting some stills… That night was a wicked night for shots again with the dimly lit sky and the misting of the rain. It wasn’t too cold or too wet…

Ricky getting some footage at the back there. The hotel in the back made for some nice backdrop with the rooms lit up with a heart and a peace sign in the middle.

These shots are super awesome to me because of the incandescent lights and the blue sky.

Just random shots…

Tried to get a puddle shot but not enough water haha

Derrick getting some footage…

Here, Ricky was setting up for a really cool shot where the car disappears in the video. Hard to explain but you’ll have to see when the video is done. I got a little teaser of it and I think it’s so dope!

Last one for the night… The car acts as a model and as an equipment car! LOL

illuustrations X lifewithjson: The Last Few Shots

The final night of capturing footage for the video Ricky is putting together means the final night of capturing behind the scenes footage and spamming pictures of my car. Honestly, it’s been a little weird for me to be the one that’s not doing all the shooting and just standing around. It’s super cool trying to collaborate with Ricky on suggesting angles and stuff, but I’m just not cut out for it LOL. Angles that work well for video don’t work well for photos sometimes and so I just give up and let Ricky do all the work.

Last night was an interesting one to say the least – started off nice with a chilly wind and Ricky’s wife, Crystal, joined us to help with capturing rollers. At the end of the night right before we were getting ready to finish a few more rollers, their car battery died. Luckily, their friend close by came within 10 minutes with booster cables and we were on our way. Almost took an L despite the good shots Ricky was getting LOL

Golden hour as per usual.

Sunset was so good between the buildings… Except that car decided to park there and get in the way.

Got some Michael Bay-type lighting effects going on here too hahaha so cool

The last spot we had planned on hitting up was the library. Ricky had a set of spots listed out and we hit most of them. The library was a perfect last spot for us with a nice backdrop to boot. The architecture and lighting here is next level.

Decided to head up to higher ground to get some other shots. Not sure how I feel about this yet… The angle might be throwing it off but I also like the feel.

Ricky getting in the way… lol jk

Last shot while waiting for their friend to arrive with the booster cables. Ricky might be aiming to finish and release the video earlier than expected, so stay tuned for that! It’s been a sweet few days of recording and I’m confident he’s going to put it together nicely.

illuustrations X lifewithjson: Capturing Mugen

Now that the Mugen kit is on, it’s time for Ricky to get working on finishing the final version of the video he’s been wanting to make! It’s been an anxious little break from the few sessions we did for the teaser because he’s been wanting to get out and do video and I’ve been wanting the parts to arrive faster.

Yesterday, we hit up a few parts of downtown again and started it up again. I must say that it feels like looking at and shooting a brand new car with the Mugen kit. I feel like it’s not so naked and “stock” looking LOL. Sometimes all you need is a little change to be able to find new ways of shooting it again – and I think Ricky feels the same.

Again, just a few BTS shots while Ricky runs around and captures video… I try to help with suggestions but I don’t know shit about moving a camera around – I just know how to take stills so that’s all you’ll get from me LOL. I can barely get good video of my exhaust note…

We decided to stroll through China town and see what was up and nothing was definitely up. It’s a ghost town there and parking was all ours. This spot above is usually never available, yet there we were…

As you can see behind the car, there’s not a soul around… It’s funny because Ricky was wanting some cars to pass by for a few specific shots, but no cars ever rolled through. When you want cars, there are none and when you want to be left alone, everyone just comes and gets in the way haha

Doing some more wandering, we found a really dope spot that was out of the way of any traffic and the security guard there was super chill. We just waved our cameras and he said “no problem”. The complexes around us were all residential units so we were super careful not to make a lot of noise or get in the way.

I know it’s a fox, but I’m gonna call him Hachiko just cause.

I wish we could’ve gotten closer to this for some shots…

We got there just in time for a bit of golden hour in the background. The foliage in the distance was nice and yellow still.

Ricky doing his thing once again…

After that, we decided to take a drive around to see if we could find any other spots. This was a funny shot because as I stood in the bushes, a cop van drove by. I don’t think they saw me but it’s enough to make the butt pucker a little… LOL

Right now, around 930ish, we get this really dope light that creates a blue/orange tint downtown. I know I talk a lot about those colours, but man it’s just too good not to capture them… Just gives such an awesome feel.

Street shots at night with street lamps is my vibe now.

Didn’t take out the blues here…

Found a dope alleyway as well – also with a chill security guard hahaha. I mean, if no one has come through in the last several hours, might as well just let us shoot for 5 minutes amirite?

Boom.

Going out for more footage tonight so I’ll probably have another set soon!
