Quarry Park & Polish Auto Show 2013: Part 2 of 2

Part 2! I realize I missed a lot of other cars but it was getting increasingly difficult to get shots of cars as the day went on because of all the people. Most of the shots I am posting is when registration was beginning and the public wasn’t really wandering around yet.

I love American Muscle, but I’ll admit that I know next to nothing about them. I can definitely appreciate when things are done right though and this GT500 is sick.

Probably my favourite at the show was the super rare BMW 850i. So clean!

This Merc was parked on the exotics side but I feel like it was a bit confused. The matte black was decent but the yellow accents kind of killed the look. The calipers were painted extremely messy and certain parts were not masked so it looked like it was done in 5 minutes. The other yellow accents were OK – but I think it would’ve been better if maybe just the headlights were done if he insisted something had to be covered in yellow.

I guess it’s ok that you park like that…

A super clean G35 with a sporty look. Advan RS-D’s and AP racing BBK all around and I believe it was supercharged. Good job, sir.

This guy was there before us but man did this thing look like it came out of the 90’s or what? The paint job was great and I’m glad he did it the right way because it was even fitted nicely as well. The rest of the car was a bit dated… Later on we found out that it had a bumping sound system which proceeded to draw crowds for the rest of the day…

… Which looked like this. Sounded good… but still, I felt like it was kind of dated to do even that.

Again of the S2000. I am particularly fond of the S2000 mainly because it was Nick’s and I had shot it a few years earlier. I remember way back when it was silver and on Work Meister 3PC. So seeing this still around today and in still fairly good condition makes me happy.

Another crowd favourite was this Datsun 240z. This guy actually lives near me and whenever I’m driving home, I always see him cleaning it or working on it. I recognized it because of the colour and the license plate and confirmed when he rolled up. Super minty and perfectly done. I’d love to shoot this…

He had Recaros from a DC2R in there as well I believe.

Kind of midway through the show and Ollie was passed out under the Mini because it was getting super hot.

The rev competition began. JC trying to get oxygen through his palms because of the polluted air and Ollie awake and confused.

I wish I could have captured smoke or something from the revving, but these two were going at it for a while.

After that, I had left to go attend some other issues… but I don’t think much else happened after that. The end!

Quarry Park & Polish Auto Show 2013: Part 1 of 2

Well the past Saturday was the annual Quarry Park & Polish Auto Show and like every year, we always try and make it out and show some support. The show is sponsored by MADD Canada and it’s essentially a free show with a lot of stuff going on. Awards, prize bags, raffles, and other pretty cool things so there is no reason for us not to go. They’ve always been super accommodating for us because we’re a totally different crowd than what they usually have – exotics and American muscle. Then you see all us ricers in our Japanese cars trying to fit in.

It always takes place at the Cardel Homes head office and it’s a pretty big lot for a bunch of cars to just roll into and show. The big wig at Cardel always brings all his toys out and it’s always awesome to see since they’re usually parked right underground. The main office is usually opened for browsing and they have the theater open as well. Various automotive documentaries are played throughout the day – one of which was “Senna” – but I didn’t get a chance to go in and watch at time it was playing. This time there was go-karting around back for people to watch, some RC car racing, and throughout the day there are little events like a revving competition. It’s always a good time because it’s a nice and short show and it’s a good time to just hang out and relax.

Speaking of ricers trying to fit in – they put us all in an area together because we are like-minded individuals and there is no need for hate. I get that there can be distaste and a very likely chance that some people aren’t going to like some modifications that others do. There is even going to be a superiority complex between groups that makes them think their style is better than everybody else – and it may as well be. But when certain groups vocally hate on other groups (that are parked right beside them) it ruins a good show. It’s one thing to have an Aventador and hate and it’s another thing to have a stock car with plastidipped parts and fake wheels and hate. People need to get off their imaginary high horse and just do you.

Personally, I have always built my cars for myself and not to impress anybody else. The recognition comes after the fact if you build it with a true and complete vision – not before. People shouldn’t be building cars for the recognition in the first place. It’s when you start off wanting attention that you really start to lose respect from other people. But that’s just my mini rant based on a few comments we heard from our neighbours at the show… Too bad.

Anyways – on with part 1!

Upon arriving to the show, there was a bit of a line up. Didn’t know why until we got up there, but there was a photographer positioning each car in front of a black background and taking pics. That was a pretty sweet idea!

Nick Chow’s old S2000 with some new shoes – TE37SL’s. He recently just sold the WORK Meister M1R’s that came with the car. I think this is a better look because it’s more of a “track” look but both wheels were money.

Super clean Focus. I didn’t really notice it until I walked around to the side but it was sitting nice and low on some BBS RS’s. This one was executed very nicely.

This was a beautifully finished HRE wheel. Not sure what the finish is called but it was orange and copper-ish and up close you could see the brushed finished. Awesome.

2013 International Auto Show – Part II

Continuing on with the auto show coverage… This will be the last one.

I want to go ahead and hit myself because I will admit we missed two booths – the Ford booth and the McLaren booth. Mostly upset because I missed the Ford Focus ST and that thing looks sick. GAHHHH

Corvette ZR1. The teeny bopper in there was legit having an orgasm over this. Walking around frantically trying to contain himself, and when he finally got in the car all you could hear was him shifting through the gears like a mad man. I feel sorry for whoever gets this car (or any of the cars from this show for that matter) because of guys like that. He gets out and says “holy shit there’s a short throw in there”. OK – I understand the gated cars now.

The Bentley Mulsanne – $440,000 of car. Like I mentioned before, I don’t care for cars that are gated up. But I’ve always loved Bentley – mainly because they’re so big and their presence is awesome. This would be the car I’d buy if I was rich.

All in all – probably one of the best auto shows we’ve been to. Probably because the cars are getting better every year, but I find that a lot of the companies are really starting to follow the top trends rather than going out on a whim and hoping it takes off. You see things like the LED headlights coming in, more aggressive styling even in the entry level platforms, better benchmark prices and consumers now have a reason to justify paying that price. A few years ago companies were really just laying low and doing things half assed. An example is Toyota in the previous years – they got rid of the Supra, then slowly weeded out the Celica and they were left with nothing to attract a young consumer. They focused on family cars, fuel mileage and basic design. Today, Toyota has revved up their design and technology – bringing in more potential than the years in the past. Hyundai has done a good job on the other hand with creating decently priced and good looking vehicles like the Genesis and Veloster to compete with higher priced competition. They hit every platform and are 30-50% cheaper than competition.

We’ve moved from a eco-friendly, bland design and slow-looking niche of cars to the same eco-friendly, aggressive design and upcoming technology. Exciting to see what we’ll see two, even five years from now.
