Brazzers: Nick Chows Nissan GTR Bangzilla POV

I’ve been extremely behind on posts lately – it’s been hectic and the true countdown is on before the wedding. There’s about 3 weeks left and it still seems like there is so much to do! It’s difficult to find time during the evenings now because most of that is taken up by more planning. I’m now writing this on my lunch break at work because that’s the only down time I have during the day it seems. Oh well… Let’s see if I can pound this out in the last 15 minutes I have left.

I was super stoked to finally shoot Nick’s GTR – I know when he picked it up he said it was going to be a slow build and that was only about a year ago. Since then, he’s added a few more goodies – and if anyone knows anything about GTR parts, you’d know they don’t come cheap. The GTR in and of itself is a automotive masterpiece and it’s hard not to appreciate something of this caliber and class whether you like Japanese cars or Nissan or cars at all. Nick’s cars have always had a certain appeal to them – done up with precision and nothing but the best parts and the best workmanship that he could get his hands on. It’s hard not to be influenced by his path to building great cars. In fact – lots of the cars (including mine) that you see on my blog have in one way or another had Nick somehow get his touch on the build. One example is Danny’s STI hatch that you may recall or even his previous car – the VIP Junction Produce Lexus GS – a car and style that really was quite a different feel to the automotive culture here at the time and is now spreading like a wildfire.

Nick has been in the game quite a while and has a wealth of knowledge that any one could appreciate – whether you’re starting out or have been in the game as long or longer than he has. A funny side story – when I had sold the STI, I was set on getting a 370Z – which he swayed me away from and into an LS460L – which btw I had no regrets owning. After the LS460L, I was once again determined to get into a 370Z and a second time I was swayed away from it and into an FRS I went. During this shoot we briefly discussed the funny story of how this all unfolded and he said “I will forever prevent you from getting into a 370Z”. I’m not gonna lie – I STILL want a 370Z but I don’t think it will appeal to me as much once I own it. Who knows, maybe my next car will be a 370Z if I don’t tell him…

Anyway – back to the GTR. Nick was extremely patient looking for a GTR and he had been looking for the perfect white one even before I owned the LS. We chatted back and forth and sometime in between, he finally found one and in great condition as well… And so the story begins…

Starting off with the rolling shot!

The GTR looks great from every angle. It’s one of those cars that you can just walk around and just love every curve. I know that sounds creepy, but anyone who loves their cars knows they can watch their car all day if they could…

IMG_2318 copy

Sometime last year, Nick was able to cop a set of Advan GT’s in gloss black. A popular wheel for GTR’s and rightfully so – they look right at home.

Even the headlights are fancy

Not too long ago, Nick fitted a T1R exhaust to help give the GTR some more rumble.

On the way to the next location, I rode shotgun and he took it for a quick rip. I’ll admit that in the extremely short time that I sat in it and the one quick pull, it felt faster and stronger than the Ferrari F430 I drove around the track in Las Vegas. There was no comparison… Of course, two different cars but just such a big difference in terms of that feel of power.

Shot of the rear set up. I believe the rear tires were 305… Love it.

Them hips.

Beautiful Varis lip in all it’s glory. Nick actually ordered this the same time I ordered my SSR’s for the LS460 and he didn’t receive it until way after my wheels landed… Quality takes time. After my Varis STI, I’ve had a soft spot for all things Varis. I can’t wait to get started on the FRS with it either…

IMG_2465 copy

Awesome JDM Nismo cluster as well. It currently reads all in Japanese but it’s a very nice addition to the cockpit.

IMG_2467 copy

Of course, Nick hasn’t forgotten his Honda roots either with Asimo hanging from his rear view.

Pull up to this at a red light. PS – we smoked it in JC’s CT200h. No biggie…

I was ragging on Nick about black wheels on a white car – that’s the worst combination to shoot because like I’ve mentioned before – you either over expose the car and you get a shot of the wheels or you underexpose the car and see nothing but black holes where the wheels should be. I was lucky enough though that I got enough light – even though it was overcast – to light both up properly. The one downside to shooting in overcast is that when you have simple coloured cars – they don’t pop as much as they should.

One of my favourite shots from the shoot is this from up top. I absolutely love the look of the GTR (as well as many other cars, in fact) from up top. It’s not an angle you see too often).

And voila! Another one in the bag. I wasn’t too stoked on the overcast that day because I feel like this car can really shine when it’s sunny out. My plan is to grab Nick again when we have another awesome day and do this more justice.

[fuckitass] Steve Chan’s Acura RSX

Round 2 for photoshoots! The cold weather is already here – most mornings are 0C or +1C if we’re lucky… I’ve already filled my calendar with two shoots next week so far and I’m trying to fill it up more. It’s about that time where a lot of our house appointments are dying down and I’m at the point where I’m willing to put down GTA V for a little bit to do some work. The only thing left is securing a venue for the wedding – we’ve got a few more appointments for those, so I hope we can get one soon…

Anyways, last night I went out to shoot Steve’s RSX with JC. JC and I are “Team J” – it’s rare when I’m not doing a photoshoot without JC and when I am, it’s because he’s busy doing something else. He’s always usually the chase car for rolling shots and the go-to guy for locations. I just point and shoot. The funny thing about this shoot is that during the summer, I usually saw Steve every weekend if we were doing car stuff, but I have never actually shot his car. The same goes for everyone else that usually comes and hangs out on the weekend – we see each other often but it’s never their cars that I’m shooting – it’s always someone else. It’s been a few years now so yesterday when JC asked if I wanted to shoot Steve’s car, I sat and thought about it for a second and shocked myself because it hit me that this would be the first time haha

Steve’s car has also been one to go through lots of different stages – adding new parts here and there and just slowly getting better. I think the first time I met Steve, his car was very subtle. He still had the Mugen kit but with a Type R wing, he was on gold Advan RG’s sitting quite a lot higher than you see in these pics on Tein S-Tech springs. His interior was still quite stock as well.

Not a great picture but here’s how it looked a few years back for his illmotion feature.

Anywho – let’s move onto the photos from last night. Another good shoot in the bag!

Start it off with a rolling shot. I like to do that sometimes cause it usually gets people excited haha (uh… no homo).

Here’s a good shot for comparison to the older shot I posted above. Steve is way lower now than before and he’s sitting on much more aggressive wheels. Keeping up with the mag blue trend, this is a perfect shoot to follow Eric Yu’s Civic. Steve added a set of Type R Brembos to the front which is a nice addition that you don’t see all too often. He also switched over to the Mugen wing to match the rest of the Mugen kit.

JC’s car sitting over in the distance. Looking clean as usual.

A nice side profile shot. A nice shot of his stance and how low he sits. Check the mid section of his exhaust. You can also see that Steve added a Cusco rear cage to the interior as well.

You can’t see it here either but Steve also recently switched out his Buddy Club straight pipe exhaust (AKA loud as phuck exhaust) to a much quieter and refined Mugen twin loop. So instead of hearing him coming from his house, we hear him when he’s about 1 km away. hahaha

The sky and weather was nice to us last night. It was a bit chilly, but nothing a sweater couldn’t solve. You can also see JC’s car again…

As we were shooting and Steve was moving into place for the next shot, JC noticed something under Steve’s wiper blade. It was a parking receipt… JC read it for a few seconds and then burst out laughing because the plate entered was “FUCKITASS” LOL. We’re all confused as to why someone would put it on Steve’s car and why they would fake a plate when the ticket was free anyway. Either way, it was hilarious and that’s the reason it’s part of the blog title haha

Overhead shot by the huge cylinder thingies.

You’ll notice in the rear of this shot that the rear lip is not a Mugen lip anymore. His newest addition this year was the Spoon diffuser, but in order for him to fit the diffuser, he had to switch the rear back to the Type R lip since it didn’t fit properly.

In JC’s car rolling to the next location.

My favourite shot of the night was the roller from the rear quarter. Check that rear wheel tuck.

At the next spot… CT chillin.

A nice strip of road that’s pretty dead. This was Steve’s idea – no idea how he found it, but it was nice.

A rear quarter shot. I’ve been telling Steve to try and get taller wing stands for his Mugen wing – I think it would look so bad ass and so much more aggressive if it lined up with his roof line. Side note: The mag blue looks great here with the paint.

Last shot of the night. A dual shot on the empty road – easy to do since there was next to no traffic…

And there you have it! Last shot for the week. Next week will be more great sets to look forward to! Stay tuned!

Video: My 2011 Subaru STI

The reason I’m posting this is because I was at the gym this evening and Otis by Jay-Z and Kanye started playing on my iPod and immediately I thought about this video that Corey made last year of my STI.

Thought I would post it again cause it’s still so good!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately guys – been super busy with so much stuff lately. I’ve missed out on a bunch of shoots and I’m pretty bummed about it but at the time being, I have other priorities that I need to deal with. Hopefully it all calms down soon! Being a grown up is hard. That is all.

First Day Out!

The nice weather has seriously been teasing me lately for the last two weeks and if it did snow, it was little flurries that barely stuck to anything or melted later on during the day anyway. Yesterday was probably one of the warmest days so far at +15 or something and I’ve been holding off insuring the car until the long weekend. Went to the gym with Sam after work and it was nice and hell outside – I decided that I was just gonna insure it and drive it. Screw it.

Everybody keeps saying “you’re gonna get rock chips”, and if I wasn’t waiting for the Varis kit, then I probably would have held off a little longer. But since I don’t really “care” about rock chips at this point, I thought I was just gonna go ahead.

Driving your car after it’s been away for months is the best feeling ever. Can’t wipe the smile off your face and you miss every part of the car. So, Diana and I went to Peter’s Drive-in for some bites and chilled for a bit. Can’t wait for the day to do it with everyone in +20 weather.

Got home and wanted to do a quick shoot… A half assed shoot, but still a shoot. It’s the first time I’ve used my new camera for something other than random shit and I love it too. Sorry for the dirty car – I was too lazy to clean it. Gives character I guess.

You can tell I love the rear so much. Voltex… *drool*
